Outlying buildings such as hobby rooms, specialized storage, barns, hay lofts, anything with a roof and over 120 square foot must be permitted and built according to local codes. I have designed and had built a number of such structures.
Together, anything is possible.
Model Train Room
I wanted an outlying building on my property to house my hobby, model trains. I designed a building to set on my property staying within the limits of a guest quarters with storage. Guest quarters are not allowed to have a kitchen within them but could have a bathroom. I designed mine to look like a train depot.
